In Singapore, there are heaps of street markets set up to lure in the shoppers, food stalls to feed the hungry masses and there is a real 'Ekka'/festival atmosphere - the streets are decorated with lights, people every where are shouting to sell their rugs, pillows, clothing to you at special prices... the only thing missing were scary looking carnies, rides and show bags (there was fairy floss however!)
There were people EVERYWHERE! We finally made it through the throng and found the Geylang Serai Market! We tried the infamous Ramly Burger which I had heard about just a few weeks earlier. It's Malaysia's answer to the good ol' hamburger. It is a beef patty (or so they claim!) wrapped in egg with BBQ sauce, chilli sauce and mayonaisse inside) inside a toasted bun. It was delicious!
We also indulged in some other deliciousness... the thing with the chopsticks was like a thick cabbage pancake, stuffed with vegies, chicken and topped with more chilli sauce, egg and mayonaisse.
The weird thing Lehi is eating is a Twist Potato - MOVE OVER French Fries... this really friendly and eccentric guy was selling them... BBQ is apparently the favourite flavour for adults over 20 (as he told us repeatedly) and we enjoyed it (even though it was a little salty!)
We are loving our new neighbourhood and exploring new parts of Singapore! We're definitely getting our fill of Singapore street food and I'm sure there will be more to report on as we discover new gems!
