No Signboard in Geylang

Late last Saturday night, Lehi and I decided it'd be a good night to check out one of Singapore's more interesting districts, Geylang. Geylang is one of Singapore's Red Light Districts, but we weren't looking for that sort of entertainment... it was all about the food! Geylang is almost equally famous for its food... most probably because it's one of the places you can show up at 11pm, midnight, 2am, and still order a good meal!

Around 11pm, we jumped into a taxi and asked to be taken to the best spot in Geylang for chilli crab... after getting past some pronounciation issues - the cabbie thought we were asking to be taken to a kelong (a fishing hut in the ocean) - we got on our way... clarifying again, in case of any misinterpretation, that we were after seafood. He dropped us at No Signboard and straight away we liked it - it was busy and had a great vibe, plus how cool is the name!?

Despite not being too hungry, we ordered chilli crab, sliced fish with shallots and ginger, vegies and fried buns and got stuck in. We were not disappointed.

Despite not looking for any trouble, Lehi managed to get himself in an altercation...

The food was great, the atmosphere was fun, and we satisfied that little part of ourselves that starts getting antsy if we're not trying something new!

We've tried quite a few new places recently... unfortunately without a camera in tow... but for the benefit of those of you living in Singapore, here are our latest tips:

• Pho 99 (54 Amoy Street) - great, cheap and cheerful Vietnamese (thanks Maree!)
• Sabai Thai (4th Floor Takashimaya) - excellent (but expensive) Thai (thanks Sarah!)
• Sweet Indulgence (Stanley Street) - good 'date night' atmosphere, reasonable prices, excellent chocolate lava flow dessert... the KING of all desserts in my book!
