Shower for Snugget!

Last Wednesday, a few of my fabulous friends, hosted a spectacular baby shower for me and snugget.  Snugget is our pet name for our baby boy, as we won't be deciding on a name until after he's born!

The house was decorated with loads of baby shower paraphenalia - people had the chance to decorate baby clothes - here is a friend's little girl decorating a bib.

Rochelle made this amazing diaper cake - 3 tiers of newborn and size 1 nappies which have already found their place under Snugs' changing table!

We played some fun games that Sarah coordinated and everyone had a blast! I'll explain the games here so I have a record for myself, and in case they come in handy for any shower hosts!

• Everyone was given a nappy pin and a list of 'forbidden words' such as baby, labour, snugget, epidural and anyone caught saying those words would pass their pin to whoever caught them out - at the end of the game, the person with the most pins, won. 
• Mini pacifiers were frozen into ice cubes in the punch - you were not allowed force the ice cube to melt by sucking or breathing on it, and the first person with the pacifier to escape completely from the ice, had to shout, with urgency "MY WATER JUST BROKE!" to win. 
• The third game was a quiz on nursery rhymes and had a series of questions about the main nursery rhyme characters and you had to name them... ie "This boy kissed the girls and made them cry".   

The prizes were gorgeous packs of shower gels and body lotions which were received gratefully by the guests!

The shower was a "book shower" so as well as bringing great practical gifts for Snugget, I received so many delightful books that were childhood favourites of the women who attended or favourites of their own children!  I can't wait to read them to him as he grows up and they become firm favourites in our home also! 

Debbie made the most gorgeous shower favours for all the guests - a book mark decorated with blue beads!

And, the food!  Rochelle made the most delicious mini quiches, choc-dipped strawberries and fruit salad.  Debbie made these delicious lime cakes, all perfectly shaped and decorated!  V made white chocolate and raspberry cupcakes and orange blossom cupcakes - the former were I think the most popular food item on the buffet.  Maree made a delicious coconut syrup cake (gotta keep the Mediterranean traditions going!).  There was an amazing spread of savoury nibbles thanks to Clarinda (catered by "Something to Go" at the Regent Hotel - highly recommended for those of you looking for catering for any events in Singapore).

Sometimes living abroad while being pregnant with our first baby is tough... things that I always thought would be shared, haven't been - my family hasn't seen my belly growing (except through Skype) and my long-time friends haven't been able to feel Snugs moving or see how I'm coping with pregnancy.  However, living here means we get other benefits - and last Wednesday really showed me how quickly we have made amazing friends here and how well loved we are by those around us.  It truly is such a great blessing and I'm excited to be sharing this time of my life with Lehi and our Singapore family!
