CAMP
The accommodation was described as "spartan" but it was better than we expected! A mattress on the floor of a raised hut surrounded by mosquito net was comfy enough!
The camp is made up of a dining area, recreation area, hammocks strung around the place and a boardwalk that runs between all of the huts and the toilet/shower block (shower is a liberal use of the term, showering involved filling a bucket with water pumped up from the river and pouring smaller bucketloads over yourself...).
WILDLIFE
WILDLIFEThe main reason for going to Uncle Tan's is the chance to see heaps of wildlife!
We loved the night, sunrise and sunset wildlife safaris on the Kinabatangan River and day and night jungle trekking.
On the night, morning and afternoon river cruises, we got to see a bunch of wildlife...
Longtail macaques, short-tail macaques, gibbon, probiscus monkeys and even an orangutan!
We saw heaps of repitles, birds and insects too... as well as fruit bats and pygmy squirrels!
FUN!
We had the opportunity to take an optional fishing trip! As we love fishing, it was a no brainer for us (and at RM20 each, a lot cheaper than the charters we took off Port Douglas!).
We pulled up quite a few cat fish, but Lehi really surprised everyone when he started reeling in prawns!
The staff even cooked up our catch for us for dinner! Yum!
The staff at Uncle Tan's were awesome - knowledgeable, down to earth and really good fun!
We'd definitely recommend Uncle Tan's to anyone who doesn't mind roughing it a little for an unforgettable experience!
